So today sees my LonDone challenge officially scuppered! Today had to be a parkrun or I couldn’t complete even the fall-back position challenge. Main challenge was to do all the London parkruns in a year, whilst the fall-back was to have completed all the London parkruns in the year [as I had already done 10 different events previous to the challenge start I could have still claimed LonDone status despite dropping up to 10 weekends]. Today was the day I had used up the 10 weekend buffer and needed to do a parkrun.

Also with this being my first missed training day in 5 weeks [day after marathon last day off] and only the second day in 10 weeks [since the weekend before lockdown started] it is a bit of a downer. Still there is always another day, and a day off running can be a day planning adventures. And stretching.

LonDone14 and holding

So today should have been LonDone15 but there are no parkruns taking place in the UK. I did consider going for a freedom run but decided against it. Frankly, getting out to try to find some last minute food supplies was more pressing. It did enable me to cover 6 miles walking though.

This made me laugh. I first thought it was an instruction on how to run [rather than a football supporters protest message] during the virus crisis; you must wear a big top?

Time to dream up some new [solo if needs must, social distanced at least if able] adventures for the coming running weeks.

A 4 mile walk home in the rain, trying every shop for supplies on the way. Seems that a blog titled outrunthezombeez is becoming more and more topical? All very strange out there.

My 2020 LonDone challenge has now had to change format, as parkrun UK officially suspended all parkruns today. Luckily I had already done about 10 different London parkruns over the years, so my plan B will go into operation.

I will still be able [as long as parkruns open again before 10 weeks are up] to be LonDone in 2020, I just won’t be able to do all the London parkruns in one go back to back. Luckily the 10 events I had already done previously were earmarked for later in the year anyhow, so keeping everything on track.

A wet and windy Londone14. At Sunny Hill parkrun.

The course was all on tarmac, but 3 very twisty and ‘hilly’ laps [with rain on the last lap]. Which meant 5 long inclines. The up hills felt very slow but I did somehow end in a not at all bad 24.59 today. At Londone14 that means a quarter of the current London parkruns completed.

With a little walking before and after, I managed a 7 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 24.53]

Now already at Londone13. At Oak Hill Park parkrun.

The course was all on tarmac, and only 3 laps but with a tiny bump and very narrow paths. Even though this is probably the second or third best time this year, I was disappointed with only a 23.48 today, as I felt I was on track for sub 23 minutes?

With a little walk before and also after, I managed an 11 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 24.53]
[25.09] [26.21] [27.58] [25.53] [23.35] [23.33] [24.27] [24.15] [24.07] [24.50] [24.48] [24.42] [23.48]

A wet and windy Londone12. At Crystal Palace parkrun.

The course was all on tarmac, but 2 very wet laps [puddles ankle deep in places]. Which meant 2 long inclines. The up hill for the first mile felt painfully slow but did somehow end in a not at all bad 24.42 today. I had thought it would be an awful run today, given the weather and feeling a bit sick, so the result was rather surprising.

The averaged time is now under 25 minutes; so everything from now on is a bonus for the year.

With a little walking before and after, I managed an 11 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 24.58]
[25.09] [26.21] [27.58] [25.53] [23.35] [23.33] [24.27] [24.15] [24.07] [24.50] [24.48] [24.42]

A windy Londone11. At Highbury Fields parkrun.

The course was all on tarmac, but 5 laps. Which meant 6 inclines. Felt I was moving a bit faster so a bit disappointed with only a 24.48 today. That said, I did wake up with a crick in my lower back.

The averaged time is now at 25 minutes; so everything from now on is a bonus for the year.

With a little walk before and also after, I managed a 10 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 25.00]

Into double figures and now already at Londone10. At Canons Park parkrun.

The course was half tarmac, half cinder and a bit quagmire. Felt I was moving faster so rather miffed with only a 24.50 today.

The averaged time is still not quite at 25 minutes; had hoped to go under that mark today, so rather disappointed.

With a little walk before and also after, I managed a 5 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 25.01]
[25.09] [26.21] [27.58] [25.53] [23.35] [23.33] [24.27] [24.15] [24.07] [24.50]

The ninth run so I am now Londone 9. At Grovelands parkrun.

As the course was all on tarmac, and I have yet again run little this week, I hoped for another sub 25 minute time despite knowing the route would have some ‘lumps’; so I was reasonably pleased with a 24.07.

The averaged time is now nearly at the 25 minute mark [only now 18 averaged seconds slow]; so after next week [going 24.42 will do it] I can hopefully lower the year’s goal to 24 minutes? That would immediately however mean having to take off 10 minutes and run no slower than 24 minutes each week!

With a little walk before and also after, I managed a 5 mile day.

Londone results: [averaged 25.02]
[25.09] [26.21] [27.58] [25.53] [23.35] [23.33] [24.27] [24.15] [24.07]
