bling TWO [TDC360]

Seven Marathons – Day TWO.

Another good weather day; overcast and a little chilly but no rain and light wind, so perfect for running. Sun again came out about half way around.

The same 7 lap 670ft of climb course after a 2.5 mile walk from the train station and same back to the station walk, for a 31 miles total day.

Marathon in 3:45:04 which required more work than day one, naturally, but still didn’t feel like racing pace. Surprisingly this was 35 seconds faster than the first, when I completely expected it to be much slower!

Time at 10K was 30 seconds slower than first day, but at the half marathon point it was about the same time. I lost only 1 minute on the second half whilst even managing to speed up to just over 8 minutes for the last mile comfortably, proving that my hydration/refuelling [both during and after the 26.2 miles] must be working okay? It was useful to have a ‘chasing’ group of 4 runners about 100 metres behind the whole way to keep me honest. LOL

The big issue for day three will be my trashed quads; really feeling quite tired post race, so tomorrow is certain to be slower; but by how much?. Now for some rest. Till early AM travel to Milton Keynes again.

The feats of endurance of early pedestrianism athletes is truly inspirational. Some of the longer event records they set stood until comparatively recently. Especially astounding considering the diets they ate and the clobber they wore.

This book looks worth a look The Lost Art of Walking, Geoff Nicholson

‘Pedestrianism’ as a method of discovering the world.

For the lack of posts on my blogs this week. As a UK TalkTalk user, I along with many others am experiencing WordPress / TalkTalk connectivity issues which mean that being able to post [or even view] my blogs is proving impossible for much of the time
